Young American director Darshan Patel used an unconventional method to introduce himself and gained the opportunity to intern with the famous director Oscar Boyson. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Business Insider reported on this. According to Patel, he tried several times to contact Boyson, but his attempts via social networks and email were unsuccessful.
After that, he decided to try an unexpected approach. Patel found Boyson’s account on the Venmo payment service and sent him 50 cents with the note “To support this deal” along with a link to his resume.
“The idea came up unexpectedly. Then I thought to myself: ‘What have I done?’
This could have ended with various results,” said Patel. A month later, Patel sent Boyson an official letter, reminding him once again about the transaction made through Venmo.
In response, Boyson invited him for an interview, and as a result, Patel got the opportunity to intern. “When we started working, we laughed and talked about that Venmo payment,” said Patel.
This internship helped Patel establish professional connections and find his place in the film industry. The young director’s previous achievements are also noteworthy: his short film “Lu and Jane” was screened at the Chelsea Film Festival.
This summer, he shot three more short films and is currently working on a feature-length film. Patel currently runs his own marketing agency but focuses primarily on cinema.
He aims to fully transition to directing and producing in the future and establish an independent film studio.
