Per Auguste Renoir's previously unknown painting was sold for 1.8 million euros at the Drouot auction held in Paris. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The artwork depicts the artist's son Jean and his aunt. This was reported by "The Guardian" publication.
The oil painting titled "The Boy and His Toys - Gabriel and the Artist's Son Jean" had never been exhibited or put up for sale before. The painting belonged to Jean Renoir's great-grandmother, Jeanne Bodo.
Jeanne Bodo was not only a close friend of the artist but also his pupil. According to art historian Pascal Perren, this canvas has undergone no restoration and is in very good condition.
It should be noted that Jean Renoir, born in 1894, later became a famous director. He won an Oscar in 1975 for "Special Achievements".
Among his famous films is "The Grand Illusion," which tells the story of two French prisoners of war during World War I attempting to escape from German captivity.
