Hamid Ismoilov is listed for the Nobel Prize with odds of 33/1

Uzbek writer Hamid Ismoilov has been included in the bookmakers' list for the 2026 Nobel Prize in Literature. One.uz reports this.

According to Literary Hub, this list is not the Nobel Committee's official list of nominees, but rather a list prepared to assess potential candidates based on odds offered by the bookmaker company Ladbrokes. Ismoilov is included in this list with odds of 33/1, which means their chance of winning the prize is low but not considered impossible.

The list also includes other famous world literature writers such as Haruki Murakami, Margaret Atwood, Salman Rushdie, J.K. Rowling, and Stephen King.

However, this list does not signify official nomination for the Nobel Prize; therefore, it is only a speculative assessment based on odds. Hamid Ismoilov was born on May 5, 1954, in the city of Tokmok, Kyrgyzstan.

He moved to the United Kingdom in 1992 and has worked for the BBC World Service for 25 years. The writer's works have been translated into various languages.

His novel "The Jinn's Party" was translated into English by Donald Rayfield and Jon Farndon. The said translation was a shortlisted work for the EBRD Literature Prize in 2019.

At the same time, Ismoilov's novel "We Computers" was also shortlisted for the 2026 EBRD Literature Prize. The winner of the 2026 Nobel Prize in Literature will be announced on October 8 in Stockholm.

This year, the Nobel Prize winner will receive a prize of 12 million Swedish kronas. Hamid Ismoilov's inclusion in this list highlights his place in the literary world, but it cannot be considered an official nomination for the Nobel Prize.
