Import of live animals from India is prohibited

Starting from January 29, 2026, the import of live animals and birds from India to Uzbekistan is temporarily banned. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This information was announced based on the decision of the Chief State Veterinary Inspector. This restriction involves banning the import of live animals and birds from all regions of India, as well as all types of products under the control of the state veterinary service from the state of West Bengal.
This decision was made to prevent the spread of the Nipah virus. According to information from the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) and other open sources, the Nipah virus is widespread in the state of West Bengal, India.
As a result, the epidemiological situation in this region has become complicated. Therefore, the government of Uzbekistan has introduced this restriction to strengthen safety measures and prevent the virus from entering the country.
