Uzbekistan will abolish duties on 15 types of raw materials

It is planned to cancel duties on raw materials necessary for the production of 15 types of products in Uzbekistan. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khodjaev announced this during an open dialogue with entrepreneurs. According to him, in some sectors, a “tariff inversion” situation is observed.
That is, although importing finished products is cheaper, high duties are imposed on the raw materials needed for their domestic production. As a result, local producers bear additional costs and their competitiveness decreases.
For this reason, some enterprises are unable to produce products at full capacity. Based on analyses, it is proposed as an experiment to cancel duties on the import of raw materials for the following products: electric scooters, wheelchairs for the disabled, sunflower oil, marmalades, caramel sweets, chocolate, baby food, instant flour products, gingerbread and cookies, waffles, pies, muffins, jams and preserves, canned strawberries, and sugary drinks.
Also, using confectionery products as an example, it was noted that currently importing chocolate and other sweets is cheaper than domestic production. Since this situation reduces the competitiveness of local producers, the aim is to support them by canceling duties.
