A 77-year-old man in Jizzakh demonstrated a model of responsibility by fully paying off his alimony debt of 11.5 million soums in cash from his pension fund. This was reported by Upl.uz.
This case is particularly significant at a time when many parents are avoiding their financial obligations. The man had been regularly paying alimony to his child from a previous marriage for the past 15 years.
However, he fell into debt due to a prolonged illness and a mandatory trip. When the court executors reminded him of the need to pay the debt, he immediately settled all his dues.
The pensioner emphasized in his words that avoiding alimony payments is a sin. He stated that he fell into debt due to illness and that such a situation would not have arisen otherwise.
He also mentioned that he wants to serve as an example for young alimony payers. The man highlighted his intention to continue paying alimony until his child turns 18.
The issue of alimony payments remains a serious and pressing problem in Uzbekistan. According to Farrukh Toshpulatov, head of the press service of the enforcement bureau, there are currently over 348,000 enforcement documents related to alimony and material assistance under the supervision of bureau staff, affecting more than 400,000 children.
The actions of this elderly man should serve as a wake-up call for men who are fathers and are not fulfilling their obligation to provide for their children, even when they have all the means to do so. Cases where many healthy men do not spend even a quarter of their monthly income on their children are increasingly on the rise.
Therefore, fulfilling our duty to our children as parents is a responsibility for each of us.
