It was reported that the head of the border customs post in Fergana region was detained by officers of the State Security Service. This was reported by Upl.uz.
During the investigation, it was revealed that this customs officer, a lieutenant colonel and head of the border customs post, demanded a bribe of 5,000 US dollars and one “iPhone 16” mobile phone from a smuggler illegally bringing mobile phones from Kyrgyzstan into Uzbekistan. He promised to assist in the illegal import of 80 “iPhone 16” mobile phones if he received this bribe.
The head was caught while accepting the specified money and phone; however, these items had been pre-treated with a special chemical substance. A criminal case was initiated under the “Bribery” article of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and the detained person was subjected to preventive detention.
Currently, the investigation is ongoing.
