From August 15, 2025, important legal amendments expanding the possibilities of applying compulsory measures in criminal courts in Uzbekistan came into force. This was reported by Upl.uz.
This new law is aimed at increasing the efficiency of the justice system and preventing defendants from evading court. According to the law, the right of persons suspected, accused, or on trial to temporarily leave the country has been restricted.
This measure is applied if detention has not been imposed on the person, but there are reasonable suspicions in law enforcement agencies that the person may leave the territory of Uzbekistan and evade the court. An application to impose such restrictions can be submitted by a prosecutor, investigator, or inquirer.
The court reviews the application in a closed session within a maximum of 8 hours and decides whether to restrict or deny the right to leave. An appeal or protest against the court's decision can be filed within 48 hours.
The law came into force from the day of its official publication.
