In 2024, the number of citizens of Uzbekistan studying in higher education institutions in Russia reached 435. This was reported by Upl.uz.
This information was provided by the Institute of Statistical Research and Knowledge Economy of the National Research University Higher School of Economics (NIU VSHÉ). This figure placed Uzbekistan fourth among the countries sending young scientists to Russia for academic degrees.
Among foreign students obtaining academic degrees in Russia, Uzbek graduate students account for 3.5 percent. Interestingly, although the number of graduate students from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries has decreased by 1.9 percent since 2017, interest in graduate programs in Russia from Uzbekistan remains stable.
In the ranking of countries by the number of graduate students studying in higher education institutions in Russia, Uzbekistan consistently ranks in the top five. China holds the leading position, sending 4,700 young scientists, which constitutes 38.5 percent of the total foreign graduate student contingent.
Kazakhstan (938) and Syria (724) follow in the next positions. Iraq completes the top five with 388 graduate students, coming after Uzbekistan.
Additionally, leading universities in Russia, including Moscow State University, Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, and MISiS, have branches operating in Uzbekistan. These branches play a significant role in integrating the education systems of the two countries, providing our youth with the opportunity to receive high-quality Russian education without going abroad.
This serves to further develop cooperation in the field of bilateral education.
