Significant changes have been implemented in the Republic of Uzbekistan to prevent torture and ensure the rights of detained individuals. This was reported by Upl.uz.
According to the law No. ZRU-1072 adopted on June 26, 2025, substantial amendments were made to the law on the procedure for detention in criminal cases. This was announced by the press service of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
According to the new amendment, individuals detained will undergo a mandatory medical examination before being placed in a detention facility. The examination must be conducted as soon as possible, within two hours, after the individual is brought to the facility.
This procedure is crucial for the timely identification of physical injuries. It was also established that a lawyer may participate during the medical examination.
If the detained individual consents, their lawyer has the right to be present during the examination process. This enhances the transparency and reliability of the process.
At the end of the mandatory medical examination, a medical certificate in the prescribed form will be issued. If any injuries, wounds, or damage are found on the individual's body during the examination, they will be recorded in accordance with the law, notified to the detainee, and this information will be immediately sent to the prosecutor.
These measures are considered an important step in protecting human rights and preventing torture
