The "Soyuzmultfilm" studio has submitted an application to register a new trademark named "Chebubu". This was reported by Upl.uz.
RIA Novosti news agency reported this based on the Rospatent database. The application was submitted on June 27, with "Soyuzmultfilm" listed as the applicant.
Under the new brand, the studio plans to produce and sell a wide range of products covering class 45 of the international classification of goods and services in the Russian market. This list includes cosmetics, children's products, musical instruments, and office supplies.
The registration of the "Chebubu" brand for a wide range of goods indicates "Soyuzmultfilm's" intention to strategically protect this name in the future. Such an approach is common among large media companies, as it creates a basis for protecting the brand from competitors and monetizing it in various formats, including toys, clothing, animated products, and digital goods.
The choice of the brand name "Chebubu" is also noteworthy. According to experts, this is an attempt to create an analog or heir of the popular "Labubu" character.
Labubu is a monster character with a toothy smile created by Hong Kong designer Kasing Lung, whose collectible figurines, soft keychains, and large plush toys have achieved great success in the Pop Mart store chain in China. If this assumption is correct, "Soyuzmultfilm" aims to capture the popular collectible products segment in the Uzbek market, creating national toys and characters in line with global trends.
According to the studio's press service, this year "Soyuzmultfilm" will present a collection of toy pendants featuring its characters. The name "Chebubu" submitted in the application is considered one of the options reviewed to protect products from illegal copies.
