
President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has instructed to develop a draft law aimed at strengthening responsibility for early marriages. This was reported by Upl.uz.
The head of state was familiarized with a presentation on measures to prevent crimes and ensure the rule of law in localities. The presentation particularly focused on issues related to preventing early marriages and early births.
Deputy Head of the Prosecutor General's Office Murodbek Mahmudov confirmed that the head of state has instructed to develop a new draft law to strengthen responsibility for such violations. Currently, in Uzbekistan, a fine of 5 to 10 basic calculation amounts is imposed for actual marital relations with individuals below the marriageable age.
The fine for marrying or taking an individual below the marriageable age can range from 7 to 15 basic calculation amounts. Criminal liability arises after administrative penalties are applied.
A fine of 20 to 30 basic calculation amounts, up to 240 hours of mandatory community service, or up to 1 year of corrective labor may be imposed for entering into actual marital relations with an individual below the marriageable age. For marrying or taking an individual below the marriageable age, the fine can range from 30 to 50 basic calculation amounts, up to 240 hours of mandatory community service, or up to 2 years of corrective labor.
