
A video selector meeting has started under the chairmanship of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, to improve road traffic safety, enhance road infrastructure, and reduce traffic congestion. This was reported by Upl.uz.
As noted in the meeting, the damage caused by road traffic accidents in Uzbekistan accounts for 0.4 percent of the gross domestic product. The situation on the roads continues to be a serious concern.
Last year, 9,364 road traffic accidents occurred in the country. As a result of these unfortunate incidents, approximately 9,000 people were injured, and 2,203 people lost their lives.
The highest number of fatalities was recorded in Samarkand, Tashkent, and Fergana regions. It was emphasized that comprehensive measures are necessary to address these issues.
