Aleksandr Shikunov, a specialist who previously worked as the sports director of the “Spartak” team, shared his opinion about the exclusion of “red-white” team’s midfielder Nail Umyarov from the Russian national team. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
He stated that he does not believe Nail is not yet ready for the national team, but rather the head coach Valery Karpin prefers a more attack-oriented player in this position. Shikunov emphasized that currently all players are being tested since the Russian national team is participating in unofficial matches.
In the current season, “Spartak” midfielder has played seven games in all competitions and made one effective assist. According to Shikunov, the selection process for the national team is ongoing and each player’s performance is being carefully evaluated.
Nail Umyarov’s exclusion from the national team is not related to a lack of potential, but rather the coach is choosing a player who fits the tactics needed for the team. Therefore, there is a possibility that Nail will be called up to the national team in the future.
