Ponomaryov: Competition in the national team was strong in the past era

Formerly well-known footballer Vladimir Ponomaryov shared his thoughts about the current composition of the Russian national team. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.

According to him, it has become more difficult to form the national team nowadays because many clubs have foreign players, especially Brazilians. For example, Brazilian players lead in the teams from Saint Petersburg, CSKA, Krasnodar, as well as Spartak.

During the Soviet era, there were at least three competitors for each position, which intensified competition within the team. Now, such a level of competition does not exist.

In Vladimir Ponomaryov's opinion, this situation negatively affects the overall level of the national team. Additionally, it is worth noting that on September 4, the Russian national team will play a match against the Jordanian national team in Moscow.

On September 7, Valery Karpin's players will take the field away against Qatar. Recently, the final list of players participating in these matches was announced.
