The president of Italy's Serie A, Ettore Simonelli, announced that UEFA has not yet approved the proposal to hold the match between Milan and Como, part of the 24th round of the Italian championship, in Australia. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin had previously stated that he is not in favor of moving European matches to other continents. According to Simonelli, UEFA's permission is not yet granted, but they expect to receive this approval by the end of the month.
He also acknowledged that it would be difficult for many Italian fans to travel to Australia, but emphasized that there are also quite a few who are ready to watch the match there. The main reason for relocating the match is the closure of Milan's home stadium, San Siro, due to the Olympic Games taking place in Milan.
Thus, since the team cannot play at their home ground, another venue is being sought. This decision holds significant importance for football fans and the teams.
