The American ESPN channel rated Brazilian midfielder Jerson's transfer from Flamengo to Zenit as one of the worst transfers of the summer transfer window. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
ESPN compiled a list of the worst transfers of the summer window, placing the Brazilian player at 12th position. The channel explained its choice as follows: "Among the players called up to the Brazil national team by Carlo Ancelotti, there are two players from Zenit, but neither of them is Jerson."
According to ESPN, the winners in the "worst transfer" category were Yoan Vissa's move from Brentford to Newcastle, Son Heung-min's transfer from Tottenham to Los Angeles, and Nick Woltemade's switch from Stuttgart to Newcastle. It is worth noting that Zenit paid Flamengo 25 million euros for Jerson.
In the 2025/2026 season, the Brazilian player appeared in six matches for the Saint Petersburg club without scoring or assisting. Earlier, reports emerged that Jerson was planning to leave Zenit and move to Al-Ittihad, but the Russian club announced it is not ready to sell the player for less than 50 million euros.
