Pavel Pogrebnyak, former player of the Russian national team, shared his views on the changes to the legionnaire limit in the national championship. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
According to him, such restrictions are not very significant. Pogrebnyak emphasized that a strong and truly motivated player can manage to join the team under any circumstances.
The new rules will not help the development of Russian players in any way. As he noted, the greatest achievements of local clubs on the international stage were recorded during the period when there was no limit.
Pogrebnyak also said that he does not clearly know how seriously these changes will affect the arrival of foreign players to the country. In his opinion, England can serve as an example, where a player who has played 70 percent of matches for the national team can be included in the league roster.
In other cases, there is no result. At the same time, he believes that the new rules will not have a positive impact on the quality of players.
It should be recalled that starting from the 2026/27 season, only 11 legionnaires will be allowed on the championship roster, and no more than 6 legionnaires can be on the field at the same time. Time will show how these changes will affect the development of the country's football.
