Gilerme demanded to ensure balance in the number of legionnaires

Former footballer Marinho Gilerme, who played as a goalkeeper for Moscow's Lokomotiv club and the Russian national team, shared his thoughts on the restriction imposed on the number of foreign players. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.

Currently, clubs in the Russian Professional Football League can register 13 foreign players for the season, but no more than 8 of them are allowed on the field at the same time. According to Gilerme, it is unfair for only foreign players to play in Russian teams.

He emphasized that there should be a balance between foreign players and local players. The main thing is that there must be strong competition within the team.

The Ministry of Sports and its head Mikhail Degtyaryov plan that by the 2028-2029 season, the number of foreign players in Russian championship clubs will be reduced to 10 in the roster and 5 on the field. These changes are being implemented to develop national football and provide more opportunities for local talents.
