The head coach of the Russian national team, Viktor Onopko, announced that the injury sustained by Viktor Melyohin during their match against Iran caused serious concern. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
The match took place in Volgograd, and the Russian team won 2-1. At the end of the game, the national team defender was struck directly in the leg by the captain of the Iranian national team.
The captain was penalized with a yellow card for this action. According to Onopko, Melyohin is a player who does not fake injuries and does not resort to deception during the game, which is why his condition caused genuine concern among the coaching staff.
According to Onopko, when the injury occurred, doctors rushed onto the field and thought the player had lost consciousness. Fortunately, everything ended well, with only an injury to the ear.
In the next match, the Russian national team will face Bolivia. The match will take place on October 14.
