The team took first place in the qualifying group, leaving behind Cameroon, one of Africa's prestigious national teams. This is a historic event for Cape Verde, as they had never participated in the World Cup before.
Additionally, the Cape Verde national team became the third new team among the participants of the 2026 World Cup. Previously, the national teams of Uzbekistan and Jordan qualified for this tournament for the first time.
A total of 48 national teams will participate in the World Cup to be held next summer. Currently, almost half of the participants have already been determined.
