Former head coach Vlastimil Petrjela supported the Russian Ministry of Sport's plan to reduce the number of legionnaires. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
He emphasized that since there are currently no European cups, local players should be given opportunities. According to Petrjela, the new restrictions will help new talents emerge, such as players like Arshavin and Kerzhakov.
Currently, 13 legionnaires can be registered in the Russian championship, and 8 of them can be on the field at the same time. Starting from the 2028-2029 season, these numbers will be reduced by three players.
At the same time, the restrictions do not apply to players from member states of the Eurasian Economic Union, including Armenia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan. This decision is expected to have a positive impact on the development of local football.
