The Moscow “Spartak” team cannot be the main club for the Russian national team because the “red-whites” squad is mainly composed of foreign players. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
This was stated by Dmitry Alenichev, the former captain of Moscow “Spartak”. He admitted that currently, the national team is mainly formed based on players from CSKA and Moscow “Lokomotiv”.
Previously, many players were called up from “Spartak”, but now the main squad consists of players from CSKA and “Lokomotiv”, who are almost entirely Russian footballers. This situation is logical.
For the situation to change, the “Spartak” club’s academy needs to work better and develop more young talents, said Alenichev. The head coach Valery Karpin called up only three “Spartak” players to the latest national team gathering: goalkeeper Aleksandr Maksimenko, defender Ruslan Litvinov, and midfielder Nail Umyarov.
Among them, only Nail Umyarov came on twice as a substitute, while the others did not play in the friendly matches against Iran and Bolivia. Thus, the “Spartak” team is currently not the main source for the Russian national team.
If the club’s academy develops and the process of nurturing young players improves, the situation may change in the future.
