Elena Rybakina became the Australian Open champion

Kazakhstani tennis player Yelena Ribakina delivered an intense performance against the world’s number one tennis player Arina Sobolenko in the Australian Open final, winning 6:4, 4:6, 6:4 and becoming the tournament champion. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The match lasted three sets with fierce competition for every point. Ribakina took the lead in the first set, Sobolenko leveled the score in the second, but in the decisive set, Yelena maintained her composure and secured the victory in her favor.
This result marked Ribakina’s third final in a Grand Slam tournament. After her success at Wimbledon 2022, she claimed her second major title.
The path to the championship was not easy. Ribakina defeated strong opponents such as Kayla Juvan, Varvara Gracheva, Tereza Valentova, Elise Mertens, Iga Swiatek, and Jessica Pegula on her way to the final.
Especially in the later stages of the tournament, she demonstrated her high level of athletic form and mental stability. Following this triumph, Ribakina rose from fifth to third place in the WTA rankings.
Moreover, it was noted that two months ago she also defeated Sobolenko in the final of the WTA year-end tournament. This indicates Ribakina’s psychological advantage in this rivalry.
Another interesting fact: Ribakina became the first tennis player since Maria Sharapova to defeat three top-6 ranked players in a single Australian Open tournament. She beat Swiatek in the quarterfinals, Pegula in the semifinals, and Sobolenko in the final.
Such achievements clearly demonstrate her strong champion character. In conclusion, with this victory, Yelena Ribakina not only claimed the championship trophy but also elevated her status in international tennis to a higher level.
Now, the sports community eagerly awaits what results she will achieve in the new season. Source: One.uz.
