Marcelo Delgado also has extensive experience as a football player. He played 18 matches for the Argentina national team from 1995 to 2002 and participated in the 1998 World Cup.
Additionally, Delgado was among the top scorers in the 2003 Copa Libertadores. He became the tournament's top scorer alongside Brazilian Santos forward Ricardo Oliveira.
