The coach's resignation decision was caused by the team's recent match results. Currently, River Plate is in 10th place in the Argentine championship standings.

Marcelo Gallardo managed River Plate from 2014 to 2022. During this period, he won 14 trophies with the team.

He won the Copa Libertadores twice and secured the Argentine championship several times. Thus, Gallardo is remembered as one of the most successful coaches in River Plate's history.
