Desham: Argentina won the championship without any privileges

France national team head coach Didier Desham commented on the debates regarding Argentina's victory in the 2022 World Cup. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to euro-football.ru, Argentina and France teams competed in the final of this tournament.
The match ended 3-3 after regular and extra time, and Argentina secured the victory by performing more accurately in the penalty shootout. According to Desham, Argentina did not receive any serious privileges or assistance in the process of winning the championship.
He recalled that a penalty awarded in favor of the Argentinians during the match against Poland was not converted into a goal. He also emphasized that out of the total 15 goals Argentina scored throughout the tournament, only four were from penalties.
The coach also noted that three goals by the Argentinians were disallowed in the first group stage match and that excessive additional time was added in the match against the Netherlands. Desham considered the claims that "Argentina was helped in the final" to be unfounded.
He added that the French side did not object to the penalties during the game because the situations were fair. He also congratulated both Argentina and France teams for delivering one of the most remarkable finals in the history of the World Cup.
For information, Didier Desham is expected to leave his coaching position with the France national team at the end of the 2026 World Cup.
