The leadership of the National Football League imposed one of the harshest penalties on two well-known footballers, Derrick Jones and Yaw Yeboa. The league officially announced their lifetime disqualification.
After the league initially reported this in its statement, major media outlets such as Reuters and ESPN also confirmed the information. According to data provided by the league's press service, during the investigation it was revealed that both players actively bet on football matches during the 2024 and 2025 seasons, including those involving their own teams.
It was also noted that they were engaged in extensive gambling activities related to football in general. One of the most severe cases is linked to a match held on October 19, 2024.
The official statement says that before that match, both players bet on Derrick Jones receiving a yellow card, and indeed, this situation occurred during the game. The league concluded that there was also a possibility of exchanging inside information with other bettors.
At that time, Jones and Yeboa were playing for the Columbus Crew team. Subsequently, their careers took different paths, as 29-year-old Derrick Jones is now a free agent, while 28-year-old Yaw Yeboa has moved to the Chinese club Qingdao Hainiu.
Throughout his career, Derrick Jones has played for teams such as Philadelphia Union, Nashville, Houston, Charlotte, and Columbus Crew. Yaw Yeboa, in addition to Columbus Crew, also defended the honor of a Los Angeles team in the National Football League.
Yeboa's name is particularly well known to fans for the 2023 championship season. It was precisely that year that he won the league title with Columbus Crew and became the author of the decisive goal in the final match against Los Angeles.
