English clubs suffered heavy defeats in European competitions

Last week did not go as expected for English teams in European club competitions. Zamin.uz reports on this.
Nine clubs from the English Premier League took part in matches across the continent's most prestigious tournaments. However, the results turned out to be disappointing for fans.
Out of these nine matches, only one team managed to secure a victory. This sole success went to Aston Villa, competing in the Europa League.
The Birmingham-based side defeated French club Lille OSC by a single goal in an away match, securing a crucial advantage ahead of the return leg. For other clubs, the results were far more complicated.
Nottingham Forest lost at home to Danish representative Midtjylland in the Europa League. Crystal Palace drew goalless against Cypriot AEK Larnaca in the Conference League.
Results in the Champions League were even tougher for English fans. Tottenham Hotspur lost to Spanish club Atletico Madrid by two goals.
Liverpool FC also fell to Turkish side Galatasaray, while Newcastle United drew with Spanish giants Barcelona.
Wednesday's matches were also full of sensational results. Manchester City suffered a heavy three-goal defeat at home to Spain's famous Real Madrid club.
Chelsea FC also lost to French team Paris Saint-Germain. Meanwhile, Arsenal FC could not overcome German club Bayer Leverkusen and settled for a draw.
Thus, the week of European cups turned out to be much harder for English clubs than expected. The fact that only one out of nine teams won has sparked widespread discussion among fans.
Now all attention is focused on the return legs, as representatives of the English Premier League will try to turn things around and continue their fight for the next stage. Source: One.uz
