In such cases, only a serious and punishable foul is required for a penalty to be awarded. If the ball had rebounded from the goalkeeper or if a clear goal-scoring opportunity had been created for an attacker, the decision might have been different.

However, since such factors were not observed in this situation, the referee's decision was justified. Interestingly, the VAR system also did not feel the need to overturn the main referee's decision.
