The head coach of the Uzbekistan national team, Fabio Cannavaro, expressed his thoughts to the press after the decisive match in the FIFA Series 2026 tournament. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
The Italian specialist reflected on the state of the team and future plans after the match against the Venezuela national team. Although the match ended goalless in regular time, the Uzbek players won in the penalty shootout.
Cannavaro evaluated this result as very meaningful and effective for the team. According to him, the players fully controlled the field and created enough opportunities to score goals.
However, these chances were not converted into goals. The head coach especially emphasized the players' willpower and discipline.
He stated that to win two important matches in a short time requires physical and mental strength. The coach also analyzed the team's playing system.
He said the team started the game very well, applied high pressure, and gained superiority in one-on-one duels. Cannavaro stressed that defense is not only the job of defenders but all players must act in harmony.
Midfielders should also not stay away from defensive duties. Regarding set pieces, despite limited time, he mentioned the presence of masters like Otabek Shukurov and Aziz G'aniyev.
On the issue of physical preparation, he noted that the condition of players in the Super League is improving. In his opinion, by the summer months, players will further enhance their form.
It was also mentioned that goalkeeper Abduvohid Ne'matov's appearance on the field was a planned decision. This was done not only for the penalty shootout but also within the overall strategy.
The head coach is paying special attention to scouting young players and developing the team in the future. He emphasized that the situation at the World Cup differs from the current matches, with much higher speed and competition.
Nevertheless, Cannavaro stated that since he took over the national team management, he has only seen growth and achievements. Considering the dense schedule in the Super League and injuries at the beginning of the season as normal, the medical staff has been strengthened to ensure the long-term effectiveness of the players.
