The Uzbekistan national team will compete in Group K at the World Cup

The Uzbekistan national team will participate in the FIFA World Cup 2026 for the first time in history. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
According to the draw results, our national team will play in Group “K”. In this group, we will compete with the teams of Colombia, Portugal, and Congo.
There has been an unexpected conflict within the Colombian national team, our first opponent at the World Cup. Two leaders of the team, James Rodriguez and forward Luis Diaz, had a verbal argument in the locker room after the friendly matches in March.
The situation escalated to the point where teammates had to intervene. According to sources, this conflict arose from internal competition and clashes of interests within the national team.
Amid the fight for the squad and key roles ahead of the 2026 World Cup, tensions between the two players increased. It is even being discussed within the team that only one leader might remain in the final roster.
In March, the Colombian team played two friendly matches as part of their World Cup preparations. On March 27, they lost to Croatia 1:2, and on March 30, they were defeated by France 1:3.
These results increased pressure on the team before the main tournament. Colombia secured their World Cup participation by finishing third in the South American qualifiers.
The match schedule in Group “K” is as follows: Colombia, Portugal, Uzbekistan, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (which later qualified for the World Cup through the intercontinental playoff). The Uzbekistan national team is also preparing thoroughly for the World Cup.
Under the leadership of Fabio Cannavaro, the team defeated Gabon 3:1 and Venezuela 5:4 on penalties within the FIFA Series 2026. This was a historic first victory.
Thus, football fans in Uzbekistan are eagerly awaiting our national team’s first participation in the World Cup. Source: One.uz
