New Financing System Introduced for Uzbekistan Football Clubs

A period of significant change is beginning in Uzbek football, as reported by Zamin.uz. For the first time in the history of the clubs, funds are being allocated directly from the state treasury; however, the strict requirements set for the use of this money have surprised many industry representatives.

Zamin.uz presents the details of these economic reforms in the football world. According to the newly introduced system, state enterprises that previously financed Super League teams are now directing their funds to a single centralized fund.

Under the supervision of the Football Association, a total of 35 billion UZS is being transferred to each club in stages. However, the most crucial aspect is that the maximum limit for monthly salaries paid to players or staff from these state funds has been set at 27 million UZS.

After tax deductions, the net amount received by a player is approximately 23 million UZS. This restriction applies not only to players but also to the coaching staff.

For instance, certain limits have been established for head coaches as well, and their salaries may be significantly lower than expected. This innovation has placed clubs that signed contracts with foreign athletes at the beginning of the year by promising high salaries in a difficult position.

Reportedly, foreign players at one of the capital's clubs refused to participate in training sessions after hearing about the salary amount. This is understandable, as legionnaires who arrived with high expectations are unwilling to take the field for the specified amount.

The situation is particularly complicated for teams like Bunyodkor. This team is still busy paying off massive debts remaining from the era of famous past stars.

Meanwhile, the high-profile projects of that time brought almost no positive results to Uzbek football. According to representatives of Uzbekneftegaz, previously this organization alone spent nearly 300 billion UZS per year on football.

If just one company allocated that much money, it is not difficult to imagine how much funding has flowed from state enterprises into football over the years. The current actions are the first steps toward the gradual privatization of football and its removal from state dependency.

Of course, 27 million UZS may seem low for experienced players, but it serves as a good incentive for young players striving to make the starting lineup. By regulating the funds allocated to football, the state aims to revitalize the industry.

This transition period will teach clubs to control their expenses and find additional sponsors.
