Italy Rejects Proposal to Replace Iran in the World Cup

One of the topics causing widespread discussion in international media in recent days is the proposal for the Italian national team to participate in the upcoming World Cup instead of Iran. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
However, this idea was strictly rejected by Italian government officials. The Italian side considers participating in a prestigious competition in such a manner to be beneath its dignity.
Specifically, the Italian Minister of Sports, Andrea Abodi, emphasized that such an initiative is absolutely unacceptable. In his view, the right to participate in football should be decided solely through on-field results and sporting principles.
Any behind-the-scenes negotiations or political decisions contradict the fundamental rules of sport. The minister stated that sport is a field that must be based on the principles of justice and fair competition.
Noting that such proposals are unworthy of a country with great football traditions like Italy, he added that a spot must only be won on the pitch. At the same time, the Minister of Economy, Giancarlo Giorgetti, also expressed a very sharp and negative opinion regarding the proposal.
He openly stated that qualifying for the World Cup in this way is completely inconsistent with the country's reputation. According to him, for a nation with a significant place in the history of world football, obtaining a tournament spot through an easy path is shameful.
The Minister of Economy stressed that Italy does not need such questionable assistance and that the team must achieve success through its own strength. According to One.uz, the next World Cup will take place from June 11 to July 19, 2026, in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
This major competition is of great significance as it is being organized by three countries together for the first time in football history. The Italian national team was forced to miss the tournament after failing to pass the qualification stages.
In conclusion, Italian officials have taken a firm and clear position on this matter. They have shown the world that football is purely a sport, and positions in it should be earned not around a negotiating table, but through honest hard work and results achieved on the green pitch.
This decision is being recognized by the sporting community as a fair approach.
