English Clubs Open Negotiations for Rafael Leão Transfer

Manchester United and Liverpool, two of England's most prominent clubs, have entered preliminary negotiations regarding the transfer of AC Milan forward Rafael Leão, according to Zamin.uz. The transfer value of the skilled 26-year-old Portuguese international is currently estimated at £60 million or approximately $81 million.
Both English clubs aim to secure his signature as soon as possible, fearing a sharp increase in his market value following the 2026 World Cup. This information was reported by Goal.com.
AC Milan's management has indicated a willingness to sell Leão to stabilize the club's financial situation and maintain balance. According to renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, at least two Premier League clubs have made official inquiries regarding the player's salary and transfer terms.
Although no final agreement has been reached and no formal offer has been submitted yet, negotiations are expected to conclude positively before the international break in June. Manchester United's coaching staff highly values Leão for his versatility and ability to play effectively across various attacking positions.
Meanwhile, Liverpool views the Portuguese forward as a suitable successor to Mohamed Salah, who is expected to leave the club in 2026. Notably, Leão has scored nine goals in 25 appearances in the Italian league this season.
The completion of this major transfer will largely depend on whether these clubs secure qualification for next season's UEFA Champions League. While Manchester United has nearly guaranteed its spot in the prestigious tournament, Liverpool is in a fierce battle to finish in the top five and maintain its right to participate.
The main and decisive stage of negotiations between the parties is scheduled for early May.
