Sherzod Temirov Forgoes Salary at Iraqi Club for Teammates

Uzbek striker Sherzod Temirov, currently playing for the Iraqi side Erbil SC, has demonstrated exceptional character amidst the club's difficult financial situation. According to Zamin.uz, the club has been facing severe salary payment issues for the past four months.
While the financial crisis has particularly affected the livelihoods of local players, Temirov, as a foreign legionnaire, had been receiving his salary in full and on schedule until now. However, when the time came to collect his April salary, our compatriot made an unexpected and admirable decision.
Sherzod Temirov officially declined his payment, requesting the club management to distribute the funds among his local teammates who had been working without pay for several months. This noble gesture has earned widespread acclaim not only within the team but also across the Iraqi sports community and among fans.
From a legal perspective, foreign players have the right to protect their interests and recover unpaid wages through FIFA. Local players, however, lack such international legal safeguards.
Taking this into account, Sherzod Temirov prioritized the social well-being of his teammates over his personal interests. According to One.uz, the Uzbek legionnaire's action proves once again that solidarity and humanity are just as important in sports as professional skill.
The management of Erbil SC has accepted Temirov's proposal and allocated the funds to meet the needs of the local players. Such acts help Uzbek footballers gain respect abroad not only as professional athletes but also as sincere and generous individuals.
