Miki van de Ven describes the results of Tottenxem's season as charming
Tottenham defender Miki van de Ven expressed sharp disappointment with the team's inconsistent performance in the current Premier League season, Zamin.uz reported. Interim head coach Roberto De Zerbi, who took over to help the side avoid relegation, described the team's league participation as unacceptable and shameful, according to Goal.com.
After securing a 1-0 win over Everton on the final matchday to retain their top-flight status, De Zerbi managed to steer the struggling squad clear of danger.
Spurs had won seven of their first 30 games, but only three victories and two draws in the opening seven matches under the Italian specialist were enough to keep them up. Speaking to the media after replacing the injured Cristian Romero as captain, van de Ven did not hide his frustration.
He emphasized that playing in the season's final match to avoid relegation was not a normal situation, given his condition. Despite having talented players, he called allowing the season to reach this point a disgrace.
Nevertheless, the defender noted that fulfilling their duty until the end was the main takeaway. Joao Palhinha, who scored the lone goal, shared his thoughts as well.
The Portuguese midfielder, after the ball rebounded off the crossbar during halftime, struck it into the opponent's net to secure a vital win. He praised the team's resilience under De Zerbi, stressing the importance of unity in tough moments.
Tottenham's management plans to overhaul the squad in the upcoming season to prevent a repeat of such disappointing results. Key player Miki van de Ven featured in all competitions, including 40 minutes in the influential Champions League, where he created six chances and delivered one assist.
Now, the club's officials have begun working on implementing serious changes ahead of the new campaign.
