Marsel Desayi said that Lamine Yamal is better than Michael Olise
Michael Olise and Lamine Yamal are currently recognized as the most talented right-wingers in world football. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
However, legendary defender Marcel Desailly, in an interview with Goal, explained why the Bayern star is a step below the Barcelona wunderkind. Although both players continue to achieve great results for their clubs and national teams, there are significant differences in their playing styles and experience.
In the 2025-2026 season, Michael Olise managed to score twenty goals and provide twenty-six assists in all competitions for Bayern. These results demonstrate his high potential.
In turn, Lamine Yamal, who has just turned eighteen, closely helped the Barcelona team win the Spanish championship. He recorded twenty-four goals and eighteen assists throughout the season.
Despite the statistical indicators being close, Desailly specifically highlighted the difference in their level of play. According to the former defender, Olise is still a step behind Yamal in high-intensity games.
Yamal better understands the tactical traps set by opponents on the field and possesses the ability to anticipate them. For example, in the important match between Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern, it was noticeable that Olise could not withstand the opponent's strong pressure.
The 1998 world champion noted that Olise still needs to grow and fully adapt to the team system. According to Desailly, despite being younger, Yamal has well mastered the high pace of the game and the distribution of physical strength necessary for repetitive actions.
Olise, on the other hand, drops his level of play in some important matches. While this does not cast doubt on his talent, it shows that he still needs to work hard to reach Yamal's level.
In the future, both players are expected to be the main leaders of their national teams at the 2026 World Cup. Michael Olise with the French national team and Lamine Yamal with Spain will fight for the top prize on the fields of North America.
Their creativity on the wings and unexpected decisions will undoubtedly be of decisive importance to the overall success of their teams.
