Tottenham approaches 100 million pounds for Tonali transfer
London's Tottenham Hotspur have taken a significant step in the transfer market regarding the acquisition of Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali, Zamin.uz reports. Reports indicate that personal contract terms with the Italian footballer have been agreed upon, and the clubs are nearing an agreement on the transfer fee. This move is expected to be one of the most talked-about events of the summer transfer window, not only for Tottenham but for the entire English Premier League.
According to Goal.com, citing information from Sky Sport, Tottenham's management has decided to meet the firm demands set by Newcastle.
After an initial offer of £80 million was rejected, the London club has signaled its readiness to increase the offer to nearly £100 million. If the deal goes through, Newcastle will make a substantial profit on the player they bought from Milan in 2023 for £60 million.
Personal contract details have been finalized, and an agreement has been reached on a six-year deal between Sandro Tonali and Tottenham. Under the terms, the Italian midfielder will earn a weekly salary of £275,000.
This figure places him among the club's highest-paid players. Additionally, it has been noted that during the contract period, the player's agency, GR Sports, will receive a commission amounting to 10% of the transfer fee.
The main driving force behind this transfer is Tottenham's head coach, Roberto De Zerbi. The Italian specialist sees his compatriot as the "engine" of the team for the upcoming season.
Close relations between De Zerbi and Tonali's agent, Giuseppe Riso, are said to play an important role in the successful progress of the negotiations. However, the path will not be easy for Tottenham due to competition from Manchester City.
According to Chronicle Live, Manchester City have also entered the race. The club's new head coach, Enzo Maresca, views Tonali as a suitable candidate to replace Bernardo Silva, who departed for Real Madrid.
Furthermore, the Italian could serve as a reliable backup for Rodri or as a partner in midfield. Manchester City are financially very strong and have the ability to match any offer Tottenham might make.
Having spent £116 million on Elliot Anderson this summer, the "Citizens" are prepared to spend a significant amount on Sandro Tonali as well. For the player himself, the prospect of playing regularly in the Champions League could make Tottenham's offer more appealing than Manchester City's.
At present, both clubs are continuing final negotiations with Newcastle. Sandro Tonali is eager to return to the pitch after his suspension last season and to showcase his best form.
His move to one of England's top clubs would undoubtedly open a new chapter in his career.
