Uzbekistan team visited Lasha Gujejian
From August 28–30, the city of Lausanne in Switzerland will host one of the most influential judo tournaments in the world — the «Lausanne Grand Slam 2026». This is reported by One.uz.
In this prestigious competition, a total of 529 athletes (315 men and 214 women) from 78 countries across five continents will compete for medals in 14 weight categories. The Uzbek national judo team delegation has traveled to Switzerland to participate worthily in this global event.
A New Era for Uzbek Judo: Lasha Gujejiani’s First Official Appearance This tournament holds special significance for Uzbek judo. The men’s national team has appointed Georgian specialist Lasha Gujejiani as its new head coach, marking his first official appearance guiding our national team on the tatami.
From December 2020 to July 2026, he led the Georgian national team, securing one gold and three silver medals at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, and one gold and two silver medals at the Paris 2024 Olympics. In 2025, under his leadership, the Georgian team won a gold medal in the team event at the World Championships — a historic achievement.
Lasha himself is a two-time world champion in individual competition.
