Lionel Messi ends his career with the Argentina national team

Lionel Messi has announced that he has retired from international football as the captain of the Argentina national team. One.uz reports on this.

This announcement was made through a farewell post on his Instagram account, which gathered over 2.4 million likes within an hour of being posted, setting a record. Messi wrote this announcement on July 21, after the 2026 World Cup final, but decided to release it to the general public only now.

Messi has written a new chapter in history by setting several absolute records in the history of the Argentina national team. Having played 207 matches and scored 125 goals during his career, he entered the record books as the player with the most appearances and the most goals in the national team's history.

Throughout his career, he participated in six World Cups, appearing on the field in 2006, 2010, 2014, 2018, 2022, and 2026. His collection of international awards includes the 2022 World Cup title, silver medals at the 2014 and 2026 World Cups, the Copa America in 2021 and 2024, as well as the 2008 Olympic Games championship.

His club career is also equally impressive. He won the UEFA Champions League four times, the UEFA Super Cup three times, and the FIFA Club World Cup with Barcelona.

After successful years at PSG, he has continued playing for Inter Miami in the North American MLS league since 2023 and will continue his club-level matches. He also holds the world record as the only player to have won the Ballon d'Or award eight times in history.
