Former famous football player Aleksandr Mostovoy does not accept that "Zenit" is recognized as the most popular sports club in Russia based on his latest research findings. This was reported by Euro-football.ru.
In his opinion, "Zenit" is not the most popular club, especially in the regions. Mostovoy emphasized that the club cannot surpass "Spartak" in popularity.
He stated that while the population of Moscow is about 20 million, only 5 million people live in Saint Petersburg, and therefore "Zenit" cannot mathematically be more popular than "Spartak." He believes this situation will not change during his lifetime.
Mostovoy mentioned that even during his career, people in Saint Petersburg supported Moscow clubs such as "Spartak," CSKA, and "Dinamo." This aspect shows how connections and cultural influences among sports fans have developed.
He also pointed out that issues of popularity in Russian football are complex and depend on many factors. It is necessary to understand changes in this field not only through statistical data but also through the emotions and culture of local fans.
