It has been confirmed that the power connector of the RTX 5090 FE is melting
The power port of the Nvidia RTX 5090 Founders Edition (FE) graphics card has been reported to have burned for the first time. One Reddit user mentioned that they noticed a burning smell while playing Battlefield 5 and that this issue affected the power port and cable.
It has been revealed that the graphics card was connected through an Asus power supply (PSU), but a third-party manufacturer's cable was used instead of the standard cable. It is speculated that the cable could not withstand the heavy load. The user stated that they had used this cable with the previous RTX 4090 for over two years without any issues. They also emphasized that they had properly seated the connector.
The RTX 4090 was also previously known for power port issues. However, Nvidia addressed the problem by moving away from the old 16-pin 12VHPWR design and replacing it with a more reliable 12V-2x6 standard. This same system is used in the new RTX 5090 cards.
