Telegram founder Pavel Durov issued an appeal dedicated to internet freedom on the occasion of his birthday. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
He emphasized that the internet was originally a symbol of information exchange and freedom of expression, but now it is increasingly becoming a tool of control. According to Durov, there is very little time left to preserve the free internet created by our ancestors.
He noted that countries that were once examples of freedom, such as Germany, the United Kingdom, and France, are now implementing "dystopian measures." At the same time, he did not comment on Russia.
Durov stressed that our generation risks being remembered in history as the last generation that had freedoms but failed to preserve them. For this reason, he stated that he does not want to celebrate today.
For information, Pavel Durov is currently under investigation in France. The French government accuses him of failing to respond to official inquiries and aiding the spread of hacking software.
Durov's appeal once again reminded of the necessity to preserve internet freedom.
