The US dollar depreciates against the som, gold prices rise
According to the analysis of exchange rates published by the Central Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan, in the next working week of 2025, the US dollar will depreciate by 4.71 som against the national currency. This was reported by Zamin.uz.

At the same time, gold prices continued to rise. The price of one gram of gold increased by 15,800 som on a weekly basis, and the price of the smallest 5-gram gold bar rose to 79,000 som.

On the international stage, on July 24, 2025, tensions escalated between Cambodia and Thailand over a border dispute, leading to clashes. As a result of this conflict, at least 34 people were killed, including 21 civilians and military personnel living in Thailand and 13 in Cambodia.

Clashes occurred in 12 locations along the disputed border. The war between Israel and Gaza has intensified again.

In the past week, more than 400 civilians, including children, have been killed in Gaza. The humanitarian crisis has worsened, with at least 85 children dying due to food shortages.

Despite Israel declaring a "tactical pause" every day, attacks have not ceased, and international pressure is increasing. In Europe, especially in Greece, wildfires have occurred in more than 50 locations due to a heatwave at the end of July.

Residents in the areas of Athens, Evia, Peloponnesus, and Kythera have been evacuated. The fires have damaged homes and olive groves.

The European Union has deployed 10 aircraft and 7 helicopters to extinguish the fires. Some residents have reported cases of burns and poisoning, but there are no official death reports.

The transfer of Uzbekistan national team players Eldor Shomurodov and Abbosbek Fayzullayev to Turkish clubs has opened new opportunities for Uzbek football. These transfers have generated significant interest among fans and experts.

Additionally, chess player Javohir Sindarov has achieved new successes. After defeating strong opponents in the qualifying rounds, Sindarov secured a spot in the EWC final.

He will participate in the super tournament alongside Nodirbek Abdusattorov and the world's most prestigious chess player Magnus Carlsen, competing for a prize pool of 1.5 million dollars. The entrance test exams for higher education institutions in Uzbekistan for the 2025–2026 academic year were completed on July 24.

The minimum passing score for state grants was set at 68.0 points, while for paid contracts it was set at 56.7 points. This year, 826 applicants scored the maximum of 189 points.
