On September 17, in the city of Geneva, Saida Mirziyoyeva, Head of the Administration of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, held a meeting with Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO). This was reported by Zamin.uz.
During this meeting, the ongoing reform processes in our country, prospects for joining the WTO, and potential challenges that may arise during the process were discussed. Saida Mirziyoyeva emphasized Uzbekistan’s commitment to fully and conscientiously fulfilling its obligations within the international trade system.
Additionally, she expressed gratitude to Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala for her strong leadership and continuous support as a leader. The importance of trust and cooperation in global trade processes was particularly highlighted during the negotiations.
These two leaders have communicated before. Specifically, in June 2023, they met face-to-face at a conference held in Tashkent on the topic “Economic Reforms in Uzbekistan and the Process of Joining the WTO.”
Moreover, in September, Saida Mirziyoyeva visited Geneva and met again with the WTO head. It is worth recalling that on May 14, 2023, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting dedicated to accelerating the process of joining the WTO.
The head of state gave clear instructions to organize this process systematically and qualitatively. According to experts, Uzbekistan’s accession to the WTO will open new market doors for our country, increase competitiveness, and bring the national economy closer to global integration (source: zamin.uz).
