Uzbekistan Approaches World Trade Organization
During President Shavkat Mirziyoyev's visit to the United States of America, a meeting was held with Ngozi-Okonjo Iweala, the Director-General of the World Trade Organization. This was reported by Zamin.uz.

The meeting discussed Uzbekistan's process of joining the World Trade Organization and the work being carried out along this path. Iweala emphasized that the process has significantly accelerated due to the reforms in Uzbekistan and the support provided by the president.

According to the Director-General, Uzbekistan's economy is growing at approximately 6 percent annually. This figure is considerably higher than the global average growth rate of 3 percent, demonstrating the effectiveness of the reforms being implemented in the country.

Negotiations are currently ongoing actively and are approaching the final stage. A working group meeting is planned for November, with the main phases expected to be completed by March.

If all tasks proceed according to plan, Uzbekistan may be accepted as a full member of the World Trade Organization in 2026. Iweala highly praised the activities of Uzbekistan's negotiation team.

She noted that the team is working hard, and that President Mirziyoyev's leadership and the support provided by Saida Mirziyoyeva are further strengthening the process. At the same time, the Director-General acknowledged that the process is not proceeding easily.

Although most bilateral negotiations have been completed, issues related to the United States remain open. This is one of the important and serious directions, and work is ongoing.

Thus, the long-cherished dream of Uzbekistan – joining the World Trade Organization – appears likely to be realized in the near future. Detailed information can be found on the One.uz website.
