Ecopolice is being established in Uzbekistan: tasks have been defined

According to the decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, a new special structure — Ecopolice — is being established within the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change in the country. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
This structure will operate with the aim of identifying environmental violations, preventing them, and taking appropriate measures. Ecopolice will have broad powers and will serve to ensure strict order in the field of environmental protection.
As part of the formation of the new system, 40 staff units from the prosecutor's office system will be transferred to the State Environmental Control Inspection. These employees will operate based on the environmental control units in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, regions, and the city of Tashkent.
Additionally, prosecutor's units specializing in nature protection will also be integrated into this structure. Ecopolice officers will be granted the right to use force, electroshock devices, and rubber bullet weapons while performing their official duties.
It is planned to equip their special service uniforms with body cameras. Regarding the use of force and special means, until amendments are made to the legislation, activities will be conducted based on the provisions of the law "On Internal Affairs Bodies."
The head of Ecopolice will be the chairman of the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change. His deputy will manage the Ecopolice rapid response headquarters.
The new system will be organized according to ecological territories and can be deployed regardless of administrative boundaries. These measures are aimed at effectively addressing environmental issues.
