Comprehensive plans have been set to improve Tashkent's ecology
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev discussed pressing issues of the capital during a meeting dedicated to the ongoing work and future plans for improving ecology in Tashkent city. This was reported by Zamin.uz.

According to him, responsible officials must work tirelessly for Tashkent to join the ranks of 300 cities with stable ecology. Currently, ecological issues in Tashkent hold significant importance.

In the “Global Cities Index” ranking published by Oxford Economics, our capital ranked 471st. The President set improving this indicator and turning Tashkent into one of the ecologically sustainable cities as a primary task.

In the next three months, the construction of 4 artificial lakes and reservoirs across the city is planned. By June 1, shaded walking streets will be established in each district, and one green park will be created in every 10 neighborhoods.

By 2026, 18.5 kilometers of canal banks will be reinforced, and new green zones and recreational areas will be established in these territories. Additionally, by strengthening 16 kilometers of the Chirchiq River along Bektemir, Sergeli, and Yangihayot districts, 800 hectares of new land will be opened, with 200 hectares allocated for green belts and 250 hectares for internal roads and pedestrian paths.

During the meeting, a master plan for the city’s drainage system was developed, and construction work is scheduled to begin next year. The program includes the construction of 150 kilometers of closed drainage systems, repair of 197 kilometers of canals and collectors, and building 63 kilometers of new canals.

Seventeen special facilities will be built to collect rainwater, which will be directed to irrigate green areas. Moreover, city utilities and emergency services will operate around the clock.

They must strengthen their activities to prevent emergency situations and promptly eliminate them. The President emphasized that all these efforts should serve to create a comfortable and cool microclimate for the capital’s residents.
