On December 24, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting on the development of Surxondaryo region, creating new jobs, and reducing poverty. This was reported by Zamin.uz.
It was reported that over the past eight years, foreign investments amounting to 3 billion dollars have been attracted to the region, and 4,000 industrial enterprises have been launched. As a result, the volume of industrial products in the region has doubled and is expected to reach 17.2 trillion soums in 2023.
Positive indicators have also been achieved in reducing poverty. This year, it is expected that 126,000 families will be lifted out of poverty, and the poverty rate is planned to decrease from 9.3 percent to 5.6 percent.
In addition, the drinking water problem of 2 million residents in the region has been resolved through the "Topalang" reservoir. However, it was emphasized that the region still lags behind other areas in industry, agriculture, services, and tourism sectors.
The volume of fruit and vegetable exports is low, and the number of hotels is also insufficient. Therefore, new projects aimed at developing mineral resource extraction and tourism potential are planned to be implemented next year.
At the meeting, the regional governor presented new projects. The head of state gave instructions on road repairs, housing construction, and improving social infrastructure.
Additionally, it was planned to allocate funds for driver projects and create 9,000 new jobs.
